Foreigners with temporary residence in Cuba also should have a health insurance policy during their stay on the Caribbean island, according to an agreement of the Executive Committee of the Council of Ministers published Saturday in the Official Gazette.

Policies shall be issued by insurers recognized in Cuba and may also recruit at points of entry into the country, according to the rules.

Diplomats and representatives of international organizations accredited in the country are exempt from that provision, the statement said.

Cuban exiles must carry a cuban passport and at the same time the must pay for a visa to travel to Cuba.Now they must also have insurance sold by Castro's Insurane Co. What's next, maybe a donation to the Castro's family welfare? These people are thugs and thieves
Many Cuban exiles goes to Cuba to receive medical treatment for free. The insurance is very ship, around twenty dollars a week or so, good for Cuba. Cuba, a country blockaded should not provide free medical care to any tourist visiting the country, I find this requirement of medical insurance fair.
A statement approved by the recent Summit of the Unit for Latin America and the Caribbean to reject the U.S. blockade against Cuba began to circulate here today as official UN document.

I refer to the comment by "Anonymous", stating that forcing visitors to have medical insurance is fair, because their medical system is excellent, and they should not have to provide free treatment to tourists.
This is not correct. Cuba's medical system is only free for Cuban residents. They over-charge foreigners outrageously for any medical treatment that they require. Often for extremely poor conditions and treatments. Some of the hospitals are in a disgusting condition. It depends where you are on the island.
I was very annoyed by the case of a friend of mine who took her son to Cuba for 2 weeks. He had a cold and the Cuban profiteers forced him to stay in quarantine for a week (at about $200 per night !) whilst awaiting test results from Havana. It was obvious to everybody that the kid was fine after 2 days, but his mother was forced to pay.
This is just another attempt by the Cuban government to screw the foreign visitor for every last cent.
